Movie Making

The Red Herring

This was my first tiny filmmaking project. I ventured in to experimenting with filmmaking during the pandemic lockdown. ‘The Red Herring’ was a one man project where I did the acting, lighting, filming, editing, and sound design, all within the confines of my room.

The inspiration behind this clip is a disturbing experience from my own life where I happened to be a target of predation. I wanted to artistically explore the workings of their mind.

Ambedo

Ambedo is an abstract micro short film that explores the enchanting experience of savoring life’s sensory richness. Centered around the unexplainable feeling of ‘Ambedo’, which could be defined as a melancholic yet calming trance in which you become entirely immersed in vivid sensory details, taking in the sense of being alive—of doing something just for the purpose of doing it, this film guides viewers through a simple sensory journey. Amid the chaos of modern life, I rediscover the joy of being present and aware of the simplest things which otherwise go unnoticed. Textures, the patterns on leaves, the act of breathing it all in, are transformed into profound sources of delight. The film plays with the magnification of things with intimate close-ups. This amplifies the ordinary into extraordinary with English psychedelic rock band Pink Floyd’s track ‘Echoes’ as its sound track. This film was made with the purpose of immersing its viewers in a world of the unnoticed.

Blue

‘Blue’ is a micro short exploring loneliness and the comfort found in darkness. Exploring the feeling of being small in a vast world, and discovering unexpected solace in isolation. In the midst of isolation, loneliness turns to self-awareness and discovery. Through the interplay of exaggerated magnified visuals attempting to create a ‘macropsial’ surrounding, and the haunting soundtrack of  ‘Us and Them’ by the English psychedelic rock band Pink Floyd; the film evokes the raw yet universal emotions of loneliness and the strength that often arises from it.
